...DECEMBER SAW MILD AND DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY...

THE YEAR 2014 HAS COME TO A CLOSE. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AND
THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED UP WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL
FOR THE YEAR...THANKS IN MOST PART TO THE NEAR RECORD BREAKING COLD
OF JANUARY AND NOVEMBER. JACKSON ENDED UP WITH A MEAN TEMPERATURE OF
55.2 DEGREES...WHICH IS 1.4 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. FURTHERMORE...IT
WAS THE FIFTH COLDEST YEAR AT JACKSON. LONDON HAD A MEAN OF 55.9
DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.8 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT
THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT IS MISSING TWO DAYS OF WEATHER DATA DUE TO
AN EQUIPMENT OUTAGE IN JUNE. 2014 WAS WETTER THAN NORMAL THROUGHOUT
THE COAL FIELDS. JACKSON ENDED UP WITH A TOTAL OF 53.88
INCHES...WHICH IS 5.54 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. AT LONDON...THE 2014
TOTAL WAS 51.26 INCHES...WHICH IS 4.12 INCHES WETTER. THIS TOTAL
SHOULD BE HIGHER AS THUNDERSTORMS WERE IN THE AREA DURING THE
AFOREMENTIONED EQUIPMENT OUTAGE.

MILD AND DRY CONDITIONS WERE PRESENT FOR MUCH OF DECEMBER AT BOTH
JACKSON AND LONDON. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE WAS OVER TWO DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS NEARLY THREE
DEGREES WARMER. ON THE PRECIPITATION SIDE OF THE FENCE...BELOW
NORMAL CONDITIONS EXISTED AT JACKSON AND LONDON. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE WAS OVER AN INCH AND A HALF BELOW NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON
CORBIN AIRPORT WAS ALMOST A HALF AN INCH DRIER. IN FACT...IT WAS THE
SIXTH DRIEST DECEMBER AT JACKSON. ALSO OF NOTE...JACKSON ONLY HAD A
TRACE OF SNOWFALL LAST MONTH...WHICH TIES DECEMBER 1986 FOR THE
LEAST AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH. NO SNOWFALL INFORMATION IS
AVAILABLE FOR LONDON.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED DECEMBER
2014 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 40.4 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.3
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 38.1 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
47.3 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 33.4 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER WAS 66 DEGREES AND OCCURRED ON THE
24TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST MONTH WAS 20 DEGREES ON THE
31ST. A HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS TIED ON THE 23RD WITH A READING
OF 63 DEGREES. THERE WAS ONE MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD...50
DEGREES ON THE 23RD. NO OTHER RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED LAST MONTH.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 2.49 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
DECEMBER 2014...WHICH IS 1.69 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THERE WERE 15

DECEMBER 1986 FOR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF SNOW FOR DECEMBER. THE NORMAL
SNOWFALL FOR DECEMBER IS 4.9 INCHES.

THUNDER WAS HEARD ON ONE DAY AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE...WHICH
IS ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.4 DAYS FOR DECEMBER. THERE WERE 14 DAYS
WITH FOG...FIVE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. DECEMBER NORMALLY
AVERAGES 4.5 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR DECEMBER
WAS 3.8 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 38 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
DECEMBER 24TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR DECEMBER IS TYPICALLY 6.0
MPH.

LAST MONTH WAS 64 DEGREES ON THE 24TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FOR
DECEMBER 2014 WAS 21 DEGREES ON THE 12TH. NO HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURE
RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED LAST MONTH AT LONDON.
