UNDER CLEAR SKIES...FROSTY CONDITIONS WERE IN PLACE ACROSS THE COAL
FIELDS. 7 AM TEMPERATURES WERE MOSTLY IN THE UPPER TEENS...WELL BELOW
NORMAL LOWS IN THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 20S. HIGH CLOUDS MOVED IN DURING
THE LATE MORNING AS THE MERCURY EASED INTO THE MIDDLE 30S TO AROUND
40 DEGREES BY LUNCHTIME. A MIXTURE OF SUN AND CLOUDS WAS ON TAP OVER
EASTERN KENTUCKY DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. MID AFTERNOON
TEMPERATURES WERE GENERALLY IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 40S. TYPICAL HIGHS
FOR LATE JANUARY ARE IN THE MIDDLE 40S.

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE AREA LATE
TONIGHT...AND COULD PRODUCE SOME FREEZING RAIN BEFORE IT CHANGES
BACK TO RAIN DURING THE DAY ON SUNDAY ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY.
CURRENTLY IT APPEARS THAT THERE COULD BE SOME LIGHT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
SUNDAY NIGHT AND AGAIN ON MONDAY AS THIS SYSTEMS EXITS AND COLDER
AIR MOVES IN BEHIND IT. STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO...YOUR

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY...AN UNUSUAL WARM SPELL WAS COMING TO
AN END. TEMPERATURES TOPPED THE 70 DEGREE MARK ACROSS EASTERN
KENTUCKY FOR 4 CONSECUTIVE DAYS TO END JANUARY 2002. THE 78 DEGREES
AT JACKSON AND 74 DEGREES AT LONDON BOTH ESTABLISHED NEW DAILY HIGH
TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR TODAY/S DATE. CLIMATE DATA FOR THE JACKSON
WEATHER OFFICE BEGAN IN 1981...WHILE WEATHER RECORDS FOR THE LONDON
CORBIN AIRPORT DATE BACK TO 1954.
