Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
512 AM CDT Thu Mar 23 2017

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather conditions over the southern portion of the
eastern Panhandle and the Frenchman Basin. Another concern is
thunderstorm chances this afternoon-evening with potential for
severe hail and wind gusts. Current thinking is thunderstorms will
develop late afternoon/early evening. A cold front will advance
southward gradually this afternoon-evening from northwest NEB
towards south central NEB causing winds to shift.

Relative humidity will drop to 15 to 25 percent this afternoon
over the Frenchman Basin and the southern part of the eastern
Panhandle under warm southerly flow. Highs are expected to peak in
the mid 70s to lower 80s, warmest south of Interstate 80. South
winds will be below critical values, less than 20 mph, over the
eastern Panhandle and the Frenchman Basin.

Minimal fire weather concerns tomorrow. Increased chances for
rain overnight through Friday. Three quarters of an inch to
almost one inch and a half is forecast over the 24 hours period
tonight-Friday from southwest NEB to north central NEB. Gusty
conditions Friday.
