Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
312 AM CDT Tue Apr 16 2024

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM
CDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Blustery northwest winds accompany showers and thunderstorms today
in the wake of a strong cold front. Wind gusts may exceed 60 mph
for areas along and west of Highway 83. While critical fire
weather conditions are not anticipated, some concerns exist later
this afternoon across southwest Nebraska where precipitation
chances decrease while winds remain strong. Moisture amounts will
be fairly limited south of the interstate, generally around a
tenth of an inch or lower. To the contrary, rainfall may exceed
one inch across far north central Nebraska, mainly eastern zone
208 and northern zone 209.

The next weather maker arrives later Wednesday into Thursday, when
rain may switch to snow in the eastern panhandle and western
Sandhills. An additional 0.50 to 1.00" of moisture will be
possible across the central Sandhills, while light snow
accumulations are possible to the west. Temperatures continue to
cool into the weekend with yet another chance of precipitation.
The overall threat of red flag appears low at this time.
