...JANUARY 2016 TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL FOR NORTH PLATTE
AND BELOW NORMAL FOR VALENTINE...WHILE PRECIPITATION WAS ABOVE
NORMAL FOR BOTH NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE...

JANUARY SAW MOST OF NORTHWESTERN NEBRASKA...INCLUDING
VALENTINE...COVERED IN SNOW THROUGH THE MONTH...RESULTING IN
GENERALLY COOLER TEMPERATURES. SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA...INCLUDING
NORTH PLATTE...ON THE OTHER HAND DID NOT SEE THE SNOW COVER
THROUGH THE MONTH WHICH RESULTED IN MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES. AN
ACTIVE MONTH WITH NUMEROUS LIGHT PRECIPITATION EVENTS RESULTING
IN ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE AREA.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY
WAS 28.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS 3.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 25.0
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 41.1 DEGREES AND
WAS 2.2 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 38.9 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE
DAILY MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 15.8 DEGREES WHICH WAS 4.7 DEGREES
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 11.1 DEGREES. ONE RECORD TEMPERATURE WAS SET.
ON JANUARY 6TH...THE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS ONLY 31 DEGREES. THIS
SET THE RECORD FOR HIGHEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURES...BREAKING THE
OLD RECORD OF 30 DEGREES SET IN 1903.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF
JANUARY WAS 22.7 DEGREES AND WAS 0.9 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF
23.6 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 33.1
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 3.4 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 36.5 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 12.2 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.5
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 10.7 DEGREES. ONE DAILY TEMPERATURE
RECORD WAS SET DURING THE MONTH OF JANUARY FOR VALENTINE. ON THE
30TH...THE LOW WAS 32 DEGREES AT MILLER FIELD TYING THE RECORD
HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR THAT DATE SET IN 1890.

AT LEE BIRD FIELD IN NORTH PLATTE...PRECIPITATION FOR JANUARY WAS
0.48 INCHES...AND WAS 0.14 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.34
INCHES. NO DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH
OF JANUARY FOR NORTH PLATTE. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 5.6
INCHES AND WAS 0.8 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4.8 INCHES. NO
DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH FOR NORTH
PLATTE.

AT MILLER FIELD IN VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR JANUARY TOTALED
0.52 INCHES...WHICH WAS 0.26 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.26
INCHES. NO DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE REACHED DURING THE
MONTH. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 7.0 INCHES...WHICH WAS 3.2
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 3.8 INCHES. NO DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS
WERE SET DURING THE MONTH FOR VALENTINE.
