...UNCOMMON EVENTS FOR OGALLALA AND VALENTINE NEBRASKA LATE ON
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD 2014 AND EARLY THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH
2014...

TWO SEPARATE HEAT BURSTS OCCURRED IN OGALLALA AND VALENTINE
NEBRASKA DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER
3RD 2014 AND THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 2014.

THE FIRST HEAT BURST OCCURRED JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT MDT ON
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD 2014 WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 90
DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT THE OGALLALA AIRPORT IN KEITH COUNTY
NEBRASKA. THIS HEAT BURST CAUSED THE TEMPERATURE TO RISE FROM
70 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT APPROXIMATELY 1115PM MDT...TO 90
DEGREES FAHRENHEIT BY 1155PM MDT ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3RD
2014. BECAUSE OF THIS RISE IN TEMPERATURE...IT IS LIKELY THAT
THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 2014 WAS SET
JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT IN OGALLALA AT 88 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT...AS
TEMPERATURE IS NOT EXPECTED TO RISE ABOVE THE MID 70S DURING
THE DAYLIGHT HOURS.

THE SECOND HEAT BURST OCCURRED IN VALENTINE JUST AFTER 1 AM
CDT THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 2014 WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED
92 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT THE VALENTINE AIRPORT IN CHERRY
COUNTY NEBRASKA. THIS HEAT BURST CAUSED THE TEMPERATURE TO
RISE FROM 77 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT APPROXIMATELY 1252AM
CDT...TO 92 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT BY APPROXIMATE 113AM CDT
ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 2014. BECAUSE THIS 92 DEGREE
FAHRENHEIT READING OCCURRED AFTER MIDNIGHT...IT WILL LIKELY
BE THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH 2014...AS
TEMPERATURES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO RISE ABOVE THE MID 70S
DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS.

HEAT BURSTS ARE LOCALIZED...SUDDEN INCREASES IN SURFACE
TEMPERATURES ASSOCIATED WITH DYING THUNDERSTORMS...WHICH
PRODUCE EXTREME DRYING AND HEATING OF THE UNDERLYING
AIR...AND SUBSEQUENTLY A RISE IN LOCAL SURFACE TEMPERATURES
NEAR THE DYING THUNDERSTORM. DYING THUNDERSTORM WERE PRESENT
AROUND THE OGALLALA AND VALENTINE REGIONS PRIOR TO THE SUDDEN
RISE IN SURFACE TEMPERATURES.
