...January temperatures were near normal for both North Platte
and Valentine while precipitation was above normal for both
locations...

For North Platte, the average daily mean temperature for the month
of January was 24.9 degrees and was 0.1 degrees below the normal of
25.0 degrees. The average daily high temperature for the month was
36.8 degrees which was 2.1 degrees below the normal of 38.9 degrees.
The average daily low temperature was 12.9 degrees which was 1.8
degrees above the normal of 11.1 degrees. One daily temperature
record was set for the month of January in North Platte. On the
20th, the daily low temperature was 32 degrees. This reading tied the
highest minimum temperature for that date which also occurred in 1887.

For Valentine, the average daily mean temperature for the month of
January was 22.8 degrees which was 0.8 degrees below the normal of
23.6 degrees. The average daily high temperature for January was
34.7 degrees which was 1.8 degrees below the normal of 36.5 degrees.
The average daily low temperature for the month was 10.9 degrees
which was 0.2 degrees above the normal of 10.7 degrees. No daily record
temperatures were set during the month of January in Valentine.

At Lee Bird Field in North Platte, precipitation for January
totaled 0.67 inches which was 0.33 inches above the normal of 0.34
inches. No daily precipitation records were set during the month of
January for North Platte. For the month, 8.6 inches of snowfall
occurred which was 3.8 inches above the normal of 4.8 inches. One
daily snowfall record was sent during the month of January in North
Platte. On the 4th, 6.4 inches of snow fell at Lee Bird Field breaking
the record of 5.6 inches set previously in 1949.

At Miller field in Valentine, precipitation for January totaled
0.91 inches which was 0.65 inches above the normal of 0.26 inches.
One daily precipitation record was set during the month of January.
On the 24th, 0.77 inches of precipitation fell at Miller field,
breaking the record of 0.27 inches set previously in 1921.
Snowfall for the month totaled 11.5 inches and was 7.7
inches above the normal of 3.8 inches. One daily snowfall record
was set for the month at Valentine. On the 24th, 9.1 inches of
snow fell at Valentine. This broke the record of 4.3 inches set
previously in 1921. The 9.1 inch daily total was the highest
one calendar day January snowfall ever recorded at Valentine.
