PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE
433 PM CDT SUN JUN 14 2015 /333 PM MDT SUN JUN 14 2015/

...TORNADOES REPORTED EARLY THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS WEST
CENTRAL NEBRASKA...

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED ALONG A SERIES OF BOUNDARIES
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS WEST CENTRAL NEBRASKA. THE STORMS
QUICKLY INTENSIFIED...WITH TWO STORMS DEVELOPING ROTATION. A
FUNNEL CLOUD WAS REPORTED NEAR THE TOWN OF ANSELMO...HOWEVER
REPORTS FROM THE PUBLIC STATED THAT THE FUNNEL DID NOT REACH THE
GROUND. A SECOND STORM...LOCATED SOUTH OF THE CITY OF NORTH PLATTE
DID PRODUCE A BRIEF LANDSPOUT TORNADO JUST EAST OF LAKE MALONEY
SHORTLY BEFORE 1230 PM CDT. THE LANDSPOUT WAS OBSERVED BY NUMEROUS
SPOTTERS...BUT ONLY LASTED A FEW MINUTES. AT THIS TIME NO REPORTS
OF DAMAGE HAVE BEEN RELAYED TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN
NORTH PLATTE WITH EITHER OF THE ROTATING STORMS.

FOR REFERENCE...A LANDSPOUT TORNADO IS SIMPLY A TORNADO THAT IS
NOT ASSOCIATED WITH A MESOCYCLONE OF A THUNDERSTORM. LANDSPOUTS
TYPICALLY ARE SHORT-LIVED...AND USUALLY PRODUCE LESSER DAMAGE THAN
THEIR SUPERCELL COUNTERPARTS.

ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED ACROSS WEST CENTRAL
NEBRASKA LATE THIS AFTERNOON...HOWEVER THESE STORMS HAVE NOT
DISPLAYED THE SAME LOWER LEVEL ROTATION THAT THE EARLIER STORMS
DID. NOTE...STORMS ACROSS THE CENTRAL SANDHILLS HAVE PRODUCED
LARGE HAIL...WITH A REPORT OF HALF DOLLAR SIZE HAIL COMING FROM
HOOKER COUNTY AT 4 PM CDT.
