...MARCH TEMPERATURES WERE WELL ABOVE NORMAL WHILE PRECIPITATION
WAS BELOW NORMAL FOR BOTH NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE...

MARCH STARTED OUT UNSEASONABLY WARM AND DRY WITH A FEW WARM
TEMPERATURE RECORDS SET AT VALENTINE. NORTH PLATTE WAS CLOSE A
COUPLE OF TIMES BUT FELL A DEGREE OR TWO SHORT OF THE DAILY
RECORD. THE SECOND HALF OF MONTH SAW MORE VARIABILITY WITH
TEMPERATURES HOWEVER GENERALLY MORE ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES
WERE EXPERIENCED. THERE WAS ONE STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT
PRODUCED SOME SIGNIFICANT SNOW ON MARCH 23. THE LAST WEEK OF THE
MONTH SAW SOME THUNDERSTORMS WHICH PRODUCED SOME LOCAL AMOUNTS OF
AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION...HOWEVER THEY MISSED BOTH NORTH
PLATTE AND VALENTINE.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR MARCH
WAS 42.6 DEGREES WHICH WAS 4.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 38.0
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR MARCH WAS 61.0
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 8.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 52.5 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH RANKED AS THE 5TH WARMEST ON RECORD. THREE
OF THE TOP 5 WARMEST MARCHES...BASED ON AVERAGE DAILY HIGH
TEMPERATURES...HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS. THE TOP 5
WARMEST AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES IN NORTH PLATTE IN ORDER
ARE 1910...2012...2015...1918...2016. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 24.2 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.7
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 23.5 DEGREES. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE
RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH AT NORTH PLATTE.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH
OF MARCH WAS 41.8 DEGREES...AND WAS 5.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 36.2 DEGREES. MARCH 2016 WILL GO DOWN WITH 1911 AS THE 8TH
WARMEST MARCH ON RECORDED. THIS IS THE SECOND MONTH IN A ROW THAT
VALENTINE HAD A TOP 10 WARMEST MONTH...BASED ON AVERAGE DAILY
MEAN TEMPERATURE. FEBRUARY RANKED AS THE 5TH WARMEST FEBRUARY ON
RECORD. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 58.3
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 9.0 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 49.3 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 25.4 DEGREES...WHICH WAS
2.3 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 23.1 DEGREES. THREE TEMPERATURE
RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH 2016. ON MARCH 6TH THE
TEMPERATURE SOARED TO 78 DEGREES...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 76
DEGREES SET IN 1987 AND 1972. THEN ON MARCH 11...A LOW OF 39
DEGREES AND A HIGH OF 81 DEGREES WAS RECORDED. THE LOW TIED THE
OLD RECORD FROM 2012 FOR HIGHEST DAILY MINIMUM FOR THAT DATE. THE
HIGH TIED THE RECORD SET 1995.

AT LEE BIRD FIELD IN NORTH PLATTE...PRECIPITATION FOR MARCH WAS
0.66 INCHES...AND WAS 0.39 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 1.05
INCHES. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH WAS 4.3 INCHES...WHICH WAS ONLY
0.1 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 4.4 INCHES. WHILE SEVERAL DAYS OF
SNOW WAS OBSERVED AT LEE BIRD FIELD...ALL 4.3 INCHES OF
MEASURABLE SNOW WAS RECORDED ON MARCH 23TH. THIS SET A RECORD FOR
THE DATE...BREAKING THE 1957 RECORD OF 3.8 INCHES.

AT MILLER FIELD IN VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR MARCH TOTALED
0.93 INCHES...WHICH WAS 0.14 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 1.07
INCHES. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH WAS 5.5 INCHES...WHICH WAS 1.0
INCH BELOW THE NORMAL OF 6.5 INCHES. LIKE NORTH PLATTE...ALL 5.5
INCHES WAS RECORDED ON MARCH 23TH...AND SET THE RECORD SNOWFALL
FOR THIS DATE. THE OLD RECORD WAS 4.0 INCHES SET IN 1975.
