...January temperatures were below normal for North Platte
and near normal for Valentine, while precipitation was well
above normal for both locations...

For North Platte, the average daily mean temperature for the month
of January was 22.8 degrees and was 2.2 degrees above the normal of
25.0 degrees. The average daily high temperature for the month
was 35.7 degrees which was 3.2 degrees below the normal of 38.9
degrees. The average daily low temperature was 9.9 degrees which
was 1.2 degrees below the normal of 11.1 degrees. No daily temperature
records were set during the month of January in North Platte.

For Valentine, the average daily mean temperature for the month of
January was 23.8 degrees which was 0.2 degrees above the normal of
23.6 degrees. The average daily high temperature
for January was 36.4 degrees which was 0.1 degrees below the normal
of 36.5 degrees. The average daily low temperature for the month
was 11.3 degrees which was 0.6 degrees above the normal of 10.7 degrees.
One daily record high temperature was set during the month of January
in Valentine. On the 9th, the high in Valentine was 61 degrees breaking
the record of 59 degrees set previously in 1933.

At Lee Bird Field in North Platte, precipitation for January totaled
1.05 inches which was 0.71 inches above the normal of 0.34
inches. The 1.05 inch tally tied for the seventh wettest January on
record. One daily precipitation record was set during the month of
January in North Platte. On the 21st, 0.62 inches of precipitation
was measured at Lee Bird Field. This broke the record of 0.31 inches
set previously in 1917. Snowfall for the month totaled 14.2 inches
which was 9.4 inches above the normal of 4.8 inches. January 2018 will
go down as the third snowiest January on record. One daily snowfall
record was set during the month of January. On the 21st, 8.0 inches of
snow fell at Lee Bird Field. This broke the record of 4.3 inches set
previously in 1911.

At Miller field in Valentine, precipitation for January totaled 0.54
inches which was 0.28 inches above the normal of 0.26 inches. One
daily precipitation record was set during the month of January in
Valentine. On the 21st, 0.20 inches of precipitation fell at Miller
Field, breaking the record of 0.18 inches set previously in 2007.
Snowfall for the month totaled 4.7 inches which was 0.9 inches above
the normal of 3.8 inches. One daily snowfall record was tied
during the month of January in Valentine. On the 21st, 2.5 inches
of snow fell at Valentine, tying the record with 2007.
