Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
316 AM CDT Thu Apr 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...

One more very hot and dry day is ahead today, with RHs forecast to
bottom out around 5 to 10 percent for most of the region, with
lowest RHs west of the Pecos River. Temperatures will climb to
10 to 15 degrees above normal, though light westerly winds will
largely mitigate fire weather concerns, in spite of ERCs around or
above the 90th percentile. A few spots in the higher elevations of
the Guadalupe Mountains may see brief elevated conditions this
afternoon, but IA will remain the main concern. A strong cold front
tonight brings much cooler temperatures and increased moisture, with
widespread wetting rains possible through the weekend that will keep
fire weather concerns at a minimum into next week.
