.DISCUSSION...
(This evening through next Monday)
Issued at 240 PM CDT Tue Apr 30 2024

Nearly perfect weather is ongoing across the Mid-South today.
Temperatures are in the upper 70s and lower 80s under mostly
clear skies. Much warmer conditions are expected on Wednesday as
the upper level ridge amplifies over the Lower Mississippi Valley.
High temperatures could approach the upper 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms will return to the region late Thursday
as a shortwave lifts northeast across the Mid-South. A trailing
cold front will move into the region on Friday and stall across
the Mid-South through the weekend. The best coverage of storms
appears to be Friday, with 30 to 40 PoPs Saturday and Sunday.

The weather will remain unsettled through early next week as
several shortwaves translate east through the Lower Mississippi
Valley. Organized severe weather still appears low as the Polar
Jet remains displaced well to the north and west of us.

VFR conds areawide. Cu is more prevalent across eastern sections
of the forecast area where fog was widespread early this morning.
The pressure gradient is very weak across the area resulting in
light winds area wide. Cu will dissipate this evening and fog will
develop across eastern sections after midnight. The fog will be
more patchy than last night. Southerly winds will increase a bit
tomorrow over the Delta region as high pressure slides east and
the gradient strengthens a little.
