...A WET AND WARM START TO 2015...

JANUARY 2015 WAS A REMARKABLY WARM AND RECORD WET MONTH. THE MONTHLY
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 3 DEGREES ABOVE THE FREEZING POINT.
BETWEEN THE 12TH AND THE 25TH OF JANUARY...TEMPERATURES WERE RUNNING
ABOUT 10 DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL. DURING THAT 2-WEEK PERIOD...THE
DAILY LOW TEMPERATURES WERE HIGHER THAN THE NORMAL DAILY HIGH
TEMPERATURES. THERE WERE 15 DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES ABOVE THE
40-DEGREE MARK. THE MERCURY DROPPED BELOW THE 20-DEGREE MARK FOR ONLY 3
DAYS THIS MONTH.

WITH NEARLY 12 INCHES OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION...JANUARY 2015
WAS THE WETTEST JANUARY SINCE RECORD KEEPING IN 1943. THE PREVIOUS
MONTHLY PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS 10.15 INCHES SET IN 2014. THERE WERE
ONLY 4 DAYS WHERE NO PRECIPITATION WERE MEASURED. IN ADDITION...THERE
WERE 3 DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS BROKEN THIS MONTH.

WITH A PERSISTENT WARM AND WET PATTERN...JANUARY 2015 WAS NOT A GOOD
SNOW MONTH. THERE WAS AROUND 15 INCHES OF SNOWFALL IN JANUARY...WHICH
WAS ABOUT 55 PERCENT OF THE NORMAL SNOWFALL AMOUNT. THERE WERE 19 DAYS
IN JANUARY WHEN THE SNOW DEPTH WAS NIL AT THE AIRPORT.

THE HIGHEST WIND GUST AT THE AIRPORT WAS 56 MPH FROM THE SOUTHEAST ON
THE 21ST. THE HIGHEST WIND GUST AT THE DOUGLAS BOAT HARBOR WAS 78 MPH
FROM THE NORTHEAST ON THE 4TH.
