FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
847 AM PDT FRI MAY 29 2015

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL LEAD TO WARM
AND DRY CONDITIONS FOR MOST OF THE DISTRICT THROUGH SATURDAY. AS
THE MARINE LAYER BECOMES MORE SHALLOW...THE EXTENT OF MORNING
MARINE INTRUSIONS WILL BECOME LESS AND LESS. INSTABILITY TO
INCREASE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS TODAY AND
SATURDAY LEADING TO CUMULUS BUILDUPS AND SOME THUNDERSHOWERS
NEAR THE CASCADE CREST. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE NEAR SHORE
SUNDAY...BRINGING A RETURN TO COOLER AND SHOWERY WEATHER FOR
EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE OVER THE REGION
THROUGH SATURDAY...BRINGING A PERIOD OF DRY AND WARMER THAN
AVERAGE WEATHER. A WEAK ONSHORE GRADIENT WILL REMAIN...KEEPING
COOLER AND MOISTER CONDITIONS ALONG THE COAST AND COASTAL VALLEYS.
HOWEVER...THE MARINE LAYER IS QUITE SHALLOW...WHICH IS PREVENTING
MUCH OF AN INLAND STRATUS INTRUSION FROM OCCURRING. EXPECT HIGHS
TODAY AND SAT TO REACH INTO THE MID 80S FOR THE INTERIOR LOWLANDS
AND INTO THE 70S OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE FCST SOUNDINGS
CONTINUE TO INDICATE PRETTY GOOD INSTABILITY OVER THE CASCADES
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SIMILAR TO YESTERDAY...EXPECT GOOD
CUMULUS BUILDUPS DURING THE EARLY AFTERNOON...WITH SOME
DEVELOPING INTO THUNDERSHOWERS DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND
EARLY EVENING. IF ANYTHING...EXPECT THUNDERSHOWER ACTIVITY TO
BE A BIT MORE VIGOROUS TODAY. HIGH CLOUDS WILL BEGIN TO FILTER
IN ON SATURDAY AHEAD OF THE NEXT APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM.
DESPITE THIS...EXPECT TEMPERATURES WILL BE SIMILAR TO TODAY...
MAYBE ONLY A DEGREE OR TWO COOLER. THE MID LEVEL FLOW WILL BEGIN
TO TURN SOUTHWESTERLY...WITH AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS
LIKELY BECOMING LIMITED TO THE LANE COUNTY CASCADES. A LOW
LEVEL SUBSIDENCE INVERSION SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE IT WILL CREATE
QUITE DRY CONDITIONS OVER THE HIGHER SLOPES OF THE COAST RANGE
AND CASCADES WITH LIMITED RECOVERIES SATURDAY NIGHT. THE NEXT
LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE REGION SUNDAY...BRINGING
INCREASING CLOUDS AND MOISTURE. PATTERN RECOGNITION WOULD
SUGGEST INCREASED THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL SUNDAY NIGHT AND
MONDAY...BUT THE FCST SOUNDINGS DO NOT SUPPORT THIS IDEA ALL
THAT WELL. FOR NOW...WILL MAINTAIN A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS
OVER THE CASCADES. PYLE
