HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
120 PM AKDT WED OCT 1 2014

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

A LOW MOVING INTO THE GULF BY FRIDAY MORNING WILL BRING A PERIOD OF
ABOUT 12 TO 18 HOURS OF HEAVY RAIN TO THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN
PANHANDLE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL OF
PUSHING SMALL STREAMS RAPIDLY HIGHER AND WITH SATURATED SOILS MUD
SLIDES ARE A CONCERN.

FLOOD POTENTIAL IS LOW FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION...

THE CLOSED LOW IN BRITISH COLUMBIA OPENS UP TO A TROUGH IN THE SHORT
TERM AS IT SLIDES EAST DRAGGING SHOWERS EAST OF THE PANHANDLE ON
WEDNESDAY. THE RIDGE OVER MUCH OF THE BERING SEA AMPLIFIES FURTHER
NORTH INTO EASTERN RUSSIAN WHILE SHORT WAVE ACTIVITY INTENSIFIES
OVER THE EASTERN SIDE OF THE RIDGE. A FULL BLOWN TROUGH DEVELOPS
OVER THE CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON AS THE
AFOREMENTIONED LOW ENTERS THE GULF. RAIN AND OR SNOW SHOWERS...
DEPENDING ON ELEVATION... REMAIN OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE STATE
UNTIL FRIDAY. THE FORMATION OF A SEMI-PERMANENT TROUGH OVER THE
CENTRAL PORTION OF THE STATE KEEPS THE ONSHORE FLOW AND THEREFORE
PRECIPITATION OVER SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

FREEZING LEVELS THIS MORNING WERE AT THE SURFACE ACROSS THE NORTH
SLOPE AND INTERIOR WITH READINGS OVER THE WESTERN MAINLAND BETWEEN
3000 FT AT MCGRATH AND 6300 FT AT NOME. GULF COASTAL LOCATIONS
RANGED BETWEEN 4000 FT ANT 7000 FT.

PRECIPITATION... SELECTED PRECIPITATION TOTALS OVER THE 24 HOURS
ENDING AT 4 AM TODAY:
