...HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH TEXAS FROM
NOON THURSDAY UNTIL 9 PM FRIDAY...

.WELL-ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT
48 HOURS DUE TO A STRENGTHENING MID AND UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH
PRESSURE...CURRENTLY SITUATED JUST WEST OF THE REGION. HIGH
TEMPERATURES FROM NEAR 100 TO 105 DEGREES COMBINED WITH LIGHT
WINDS AND HIGH DEWPOINT VALUES WILL LEAD TO HEAT INDICES IN THE
105 TO 108 DEGREE RANGE DURING PEAK HEATING THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.
AREAS GENERALLY EAST OF A LINE FROM GRAHAM TO KILLEEN ARE INCLUDED

* LOCATION...ALL AREAS ALONG AND EAST OF A LINE FROM GRAHAM TO
  KILLEEN...INCLUDING THE SHERMAN...DALLAS FORT WORTH...WACO...
  TEMPLE AND KILLEEN AREAS.

* TEMPERATURE...HIGH TEMPERATURES FROM AROUND 100 TO 105 DEGREES
  WITH HEAT INDEX READINGS REACHING THE 105 TO 108 DEGREE RANGE.

* IMPACTS...THOSE EXPOSED TO THE EXTREME HEAT OVER A PROLONGED
  PERIOD MAY DEVELOP HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT AFTERNOON HEAT INDEX VALUES ARE
EXPECTED TO MEET OR EXCEED 105 DEGREES FOR AT LEAST TWO
CONSECUTIVE DAYS.

BE SURE TO CHECK ON PERSONS WITH HEALTH PROBLEMS AND THE
ELDERLY...AS THEY ARE THE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT EXHAUSTION AND
HEAT STROKE. NEVER LEAVE YOUNG CHILDREN OR PETS IN AN ENCLOSED
VEHICLE...EVEN FOR A SHORT TIME...AS TEMPERATURES CAN QUICKLY
RISE TO LIFE THREATENING LEVELS.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT
SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN
EMERGENCY - CALL 911.
