...WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA THROUGH TONIGHT...

.Strong mid level low pressure combined with an arctic cold front
will continue to bring widespread snow or a rain/snow mix to
central North Carolina into this evening. Precipitation will end
from west to east late this afternoon through this evening. Frigid
air will follow tonight through Thursday.

...WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow is occurring or will begin shortly. Plan on
  difficult travel conditions, including during the evening
  commute. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are
  expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central North Carolina, including the
  eastern Piedmont, along and east of Highway 1, and the
  northwestern Coastal Plain.

* WHEN...Until 1 AM EST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
  visibility at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions are occurring. Travel is highly discouraged. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your

  snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, except around
  1 inch along and south of Highway 74.

* WHERE...The western Piedmont of North Carolina.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM EST this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
  visibility at times.
