Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
338 AM CDT Sun May 12 2024

Today:

Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies were across Iowa overnight. This
allowed for glimpses at the Aurora though the display was not as
phenomenal as the previous night. Temperatures at 3 am this morning
were in the 50s. The wind was light from the south at less than 10
mph.

Temperatures will be warmer today with highs in the upper 70s to mid
80s. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop by this afternoon
though the chance for severe weather is low.

Tonight and beyond:

Showers and thunderstorms will become more concentrated over central
and southern Iowa tonight and that area will remain the focus for
precipitation on Monday. Again the severe weather threat will remain
low. Heavy rainfall is not anticipated but precipitation amounts of
one half to one inch are possible across the southern half of Iowa.
There is the potential for some areas to receive more than one inch
over far southern Iowa. Tuesday will feature decreasing clouds and
mild conditions with highs in the 60s and 70s. The next chance for
precipitation arrives late Wednesday and into Thursday.
