.DISCUSSION...
The upper-level ridge gradually builds today through late this
week, and high temperatures are projected to reach near
seasonal averages this afternoon. Low clouds over the San
Joaquin Valley brought mild morning low temperatures and
continued until the late morning hours towards Fresno and Madera
but have since cleared. Some cumulus clouds also developed
shortly afterward in the east side of the Central Valley
towards the Sierra foothills and higher terrain adjacent to the
west side of the valley. Thus, some residual moisture remains
in the lower levels from the recent low pressure system. Despite
the persistent clouds, we are on track to reach highs of at
least 75 degrees today in the Central Valley; the probabilities
for these temperatures are about 50 to 70 percent.

Mainly clear skies and above average temperatures return by the
middle of this week and will last for the next several days.
The probabilities of highs in the lower 80s remain at around 45
to 70 percent for the San Joaquin Valley with similar chances of
highs in the mid to upper 80s in the Kern County desert for
Thursday and Friday. Over the weekend, temperatures will creep
up a little in some locations; otherwise, little change is
expected through the weekend into early next week. High
temperatures late this week into the weekend will peak at
roughly ten degrees above seasonal averages. As the region
continues to warm, we will be monitoring for any cumulus cloud
buildups over the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada by
later this week, and an isolated afternoon or early evening
thunderstorm or two cannot be ruled out. Mainly dry conditions
prevail elsewhere until early next week. As for temperatures in
the mountains, overnight lows will remain below freezing mainly
at elevations above 6,000 feet. Thus, hydrological concerns due
to snowmelt will not result in the foreseeable future.
