Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Chicago IL
425 AM CST Fri Mar 8 2024

...Steady Rainfall Today May Lead to Minor Flooding...

Steady rainfall is expected through much of the daytime today before
rain ends tonight. Widespread rainfall amounts up to one inch are
expected across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, though
amounts of 1-2 inches or slightly greater may occur in some
locations as well. Dormant vegetation and elevated soil moisture
conditions will reduce infiltration and allow for much of this
rainfall to runoff into area creeks, streams, and rivers.

Ensemble river forecast guidance indicates the possibility of
multiple rivers reaching bankfull due to this rainfall. Urban areas
and poor drainage areas may also experience areas of standing water.
While widespread flooding is not likely, a few river locations may
near flood stage by this weekend.

This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts
are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor
forecasts, including the possible issuance of Flood Watches,
Warnings, and Advisories.

This is expected to be last issuance of this outlook for this event.
