602 PM CDT SUN JUL 6 2014 /702 PM EDT SUN JUL 6 2014/

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS...
NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.

.DAY ONE...TONIGHT.

  WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

  THUNDERSTORMS...WHICH MAY PRODUCE:
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH.
   QUARTER SIZE HAIL.
   FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING.
   TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS.

  AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW ISOLATED
STORMS EARLY THIS EVENING. HOWEVER...THE MAIN FOCUS FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL SPREAD SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS NORTHERN
ILLINOIS AFTER ROUGHLY 10 PM CDT AND CONTINUE ACROSS EAST
CENTRAL ILLINOIS AND NORTHWESTERN INDIANA INTO THE EARLY
   OVERNIGHT HOURS.

  DISCUSSION:

ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE AFTER SUNSET THIS
EVENING AS A WEAK UPPER LEVEL IMPULSE CROSSES PARTS OF THE AREA.
THE MAIN FOCUS FOR THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE A COLD FRONT WHICH WILL
MOVE INTO THE AREA LATER THIS EVENING AND EARLY TONIGHT.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED ALONG THIS FRONT EARLY
THIS EVENING AND ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE EASTWARD INTO NORTH
CENTRAL ILLINOIS MID TO LATE EVENING...THE PROGRESS EASTWARD
ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA INTO THE EARLY
  OVERNIGHT HOURS.

GIVEN THE UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE AND OTHER ELEMENTS...STORMS MAY BE
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH
ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS INTO LATE EVENING. ALTHOUGH STRONG WINDS
WILL BE THE PRIMARY SEVERE THREAT...THERE IS ALSO A SECONDARY
THREAT FOR QUARTER SIZE HAIL. SEVERE POTENTIAL MAY CONTINUE AS
STORMS AFFECT NORTHEAST ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA LATER IN
THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. HOWEVER...THERE IS SOME QUESTION AS
TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WILL BEGIN WEAKENING PRIOR TO REACHING
THESE AREAS. THEREFORE THE SEVERE THREAT IS MORE UNCERTAIN FOR
AREAS TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE CHICAGO METRO AREA. THE OVERALL
COVERAGE OF STORMS INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS IS ALSO IN QUESTION.
BEYOND THE SEVERE THREAT...TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS ARE EXPECTED
WITH THESE STORMS...BUT DUE TO THE FAIRLY QUICK
  MOVEMENT...EXTREME RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE UNLIKELY.

PORTIONS OF THE ILLINOIS RIVER WILL REMAIN IN FLOOD TODAY.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

THERE WILL BE PERIODIC CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORMS LATE MONDAY NIGHT
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND AGAIN SATURDAY.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTERS MAY BE NEEDED AFTER SUNSET AND INTO THE EARLY OVERNIGHT
HOURS ACROSS ALL OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA.
