Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
236 PM SST Sat Apr 20 2024

.Discussion...
A high pressure system will hold breezy trade winds over the
Islands through Sunday. Although fair weather is usually
accompanied with a high pressure system, latest satellite data
shows showers embedded within the trade wind flow. In addition,
the upper air sounding from this afternoon, though it appears to
be dry, is also very unstable with higher CAPE and TOTL values
compared to last night`s balloon launch. Hence, numerous showers
with a slight chance for thunderstorms will be in tonight`s
forecast.

Furthermore, passing rain and a breezy pattern will remain in the
area through Sunday before gradually diminishing Monday as the
aforementioned high pressure moves east. This pattern will allow
for a surface trough to move just south of the territory Monday
and Tuesday. An uptick in showers is possible for this time
depending on the closeness of the trough. In addition, a gentle
breeze will persist through midweek.

.Marine...
Rough conditions remain for coastal waters through Sunday.
Although wave heights have fallen below advisory thresholds (below
8 feet), wind speeds of 15 to 20 mph will hold white caps in the
area through tomorrow. Furthermore, as winds are forecast to
decrease Monday through Tuesday, seas will also subside for this
timeframe.
