Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
229 PM MDT Sun May 19 2024

...A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Noon to 8 PM Monday
for portions of the area...

.Discussion...

Dry, warm and windy conditions are expected across the district
once again tomorrow, leading to spotty critical fire weather
conditions for much of the area. Fuels across most of southern
Colorado are not critical at this time. However, Fire Zone 225
below 7500 feet is critical, therefore that zone has been upgraded
to a Red Flag Warning for Monday between noon and 8 PM. There is
a chance for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms
tomorrow, mainly tied to the higher terrain and Palmer Divide.

An upper low pressure system will cross the region Tuesday,
bringing a slight cool down as well as some light mountain snow
and a better chance for showers and thunderstorms to much of the
area. A warming and drying trend returns by Thursday and is
expected to last into the following weekend. A more northerly
track of storms means that much of the area will experience spotty
critical fire weather conditions nearly every day.

Poor ventilation rates are expected across the district this
evening after 1900 and remain in place until inversions begin to
break tomorrow morning between 0900 and 1000. Excellent smoke
dispersion is anticipated for the entire area by 1300 and persist
through the afternoon. Similar smoke dispersion is forecast for
Tuesday.
