Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
104 PM PDT Sat Apr 27 2024

.Synopsis...
Mild and dry weather in store with breezy winds early next week.

&&

Mostly clear skies prevail over interior NorCal today, as high
temperatures in the Valley remain in the mid 70s, the foothills in
the 60s, and the mountains in the 50s. While the quiet and calm
weather will continue through early next week, a brief and weak
shortwave trough will still bring the slightest chances for
precipitation to the northern Sacramento Valley, northern
foothills, and mountains this evening (NBM has a less than 10%
probability for more than a trace amount). Early in the week, a
low over the Pacific Northwest, combined with a high pressure
system to the south will keep us in a calm but warm pattern. Winds
in the Valley may get breezy on Monday and Tuesday, with a 20 to
50% probability of gusts of at least 30 mph between Red Bluff and
Sacramento, as well as areas of the Valley along the Coastal
Range. Winds will be strongest in the late morning/early
afternoon. Otherwise, expect calm conditions with slightly warming
temperatures for the end of the month. Highs in the Valley will
range from the mid to high 70s, foothill highs will be in the mid
60s to low 70s, and mountain temperatures will generally be in the
60s. //SP

.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Wednesday THROUGH Saturday)...
Ensembles project upper level troughing to be well off to our
northeast and keep interior NorCal under northwesterly flow aloft
on Wednesday. As we start to move into the later parts of next
week, off-shore upper level ridging is forecast to build and pave
the way for continued dry and warm weather. Cluster analysis still
reveals some forecast uncertainty regarding upper level ridging
dominating or a more zonal flow regime over the area as we
continue to move through the week. The NBM is favoring dry and
warm weather over the area currently throughout the extended
period. Current high temperature forecasts for Wednesday through
Saturday are in the upper 70s to low 80s for the Valley, and upper
50s to low 70s for the higher elevations.

.AVIATION...
Mainly VFR conditions next 24 hours except areas of MVFR possible
vicinity showers northern mountains and northern Sierra between
21Z and 06Z as a weak weather system moves through. Surface wind
gusts generally less than 12 kts.
