AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
154 PM SST SUN JUL 13 2014

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT...SATELLITE IMAGERIES SHOW A SURFACE
TROUGH MATERIALIZING OVER THE ISLANDS. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON
DEPICTS AN UNSTABLE PROFILE WITH WINDS VEERING IN HEIGHTS AT LOWER
TO MID LEVELS. MODELS ARE NOW SUGGESTING THAT THE TROUGH WILL
LINGER OVER AND NEAR THE ISLANDS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. A MID RIDGE
EXTENDING FROM THE EAST WILL PUSH THE TROUGH SOUTH AND STABILIZE
WEATHER OVER THE ISLANDS ON WEDNESDAY. THEREFORE WILL MAKE CHANGES
TO THE PREVIOUS FCST TO REFLECT THESE NEW OUTPUTS.

.LONG TERM...
WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...A SURFACE RIDGE WILL GENERATE GENTLE
TRADES ACROSS THE ISLANDS ON THURSDAY. GENTLE WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO SHIFT EAST ON FRIDAY AND THE REST OF THE FCST AS THE RIDGE
MIGRATES FURTHER SOUTHEAST. THEREFORE WILL MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO
THE LONG TERM.

&&

.MARINE...
SEAS HAVE SUBSIDED 7 TO 9 FT THIS AFTERNOON. MODELS CONTINUE TO
DOWNGRADE SEAS BELOW ADVISORY LEVELS ON MONDAY AFTERNOON.
THEREFORE HIGH SURF ADVISORY AND SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAIN IN
EFFECT.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
HSA REMAINS IN EFFECT.
SCA REMAINS IN EFFECT.
