AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
201 PM SST SAT AUG 30 2014

.SHORT TERM (TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT)...
TWO MAIN FEATURES CONTINUE TO AFFECT WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER THE
SAMOAN ISLANDS...THE STATIONARY FRONT STRADDLING 10S AND A STRONG
1035MB HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM FAR SOUTH OF THE TERRITORY THAT IS
DRIFTING EAST. WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THESE TWO FEATURES...EXPECT
MODERATE TO BREEZY EASTERLIES WITH PERIODS OF SHOWERS TO PREVAIL
ACROSS THE AREA.

.LONG TERM (TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY)...
LATEST SOLUTIONS SHOW THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUING ITS
EASTWARD MOVEMENT THROUGH THE LONG TERM AS THE AFOREMENTIONED
FRONT SHIFTS SLIGHTLY NORTHWARD. HENCE...EASTERLIES WILL SLIGHTLY
DIMINISH WITH A TAD BIT NICER WEATHER THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF
THE LONG TERM. BY THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEK...GLOBAL MODELS SHOW
THE AFOREMENTIONED FRONT RE-DEVELOPING NEAR THE SAMOAN ISLANDS.
THUS...BRINGING A SLIGHT UPTICK IN SHOWERS. WILL CONTINUE TO
MONITOR FUTURE SOLUTIONS TO ENSURE THESE SOLUTIONS HOLD AND MAKE
ADJUSTMENTS IF NECESSARY.

&&

.MARINE...
HAVE DOWNGRADED THE HIGH SURF WARNING TO A HIGH SURF ADVISORY
THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY AS THE LARGE SOUTHEAST SWELL GRADUALLY
DIMINISHES. THE PERSISTENT MODERATE TO FRESH EASTERLIES ACROSS
THE AREA WILL LIKELY MAINTAIN THE ADVISORY FOR SMALL CRAFTS
THROUGH THE FORECAST PACKAGE.

&&

.PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
