RIVER FLOOD STATEMENT

...The flood warning continues for the following rivers...Coal River...
Guyandotte River...Little Kanawha River...Tug Fork River...Tygart Valley River.
  At Tornado...
  At Branchland...
  At Glenville...
  At Williamson...
  At Kermit...
  At Belington...
  At Philippi...

Affecting the following counties in Kentucky...Lawrence...Martin...Pike...
and in West Virginia...Barbour...Boone...Cabell...Calhoun...Gilmer...Kanawha...
Lincoln...Mingo...Wayne.

Runoff from previous rains and snow melt has continued to flow into the rivers.
This runoff has slowed due to the changeover from rain to snow.  Runoff will
continue to slow and stop later today and rivers should start to recede later
today and tonight.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around and don`t drown.  Do not drive into areas where
water is flowing over the roadway. Obey road closures. Most deaths occur
when motorists try crossing flooded roads.

calling toll free...1-800-401-9535...when you can do so safely.

The Flood Warning continues for
  the Coal River At Tornado.
* AT  8:15 AM Thursday the stage was 27.3 feet.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 25 feet.
* Forecast...the River will continue rising to near 28.2 feet by this afternoon.
  The river will fall below flood stage tonight.
* At stages near 27.0 feet...Coal river road is flooded in several places along
  river. Smith creek road and ferrell roads are impassable.
* A crest near 28.2 feet compares to a previous crest of 29.0 feet on November 20
  2003.

The Flood Warning continues for
  the Tug Fork River At Williamson.
* AT  8:35 AM Thursday the stage was 40 feet and nearing crest.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 27 feet.
* Forecast...the river should be cresting around this 40 foot level this morning,
  and begin to recede slowly later today.
* At stages near 42.7 feet...Many homes and business outside the flood wall are
  flooded.
* A crest near 40 feet compares to a previous crest of 40.7 feet on May 10 2009.

  the Tug Fork River At Kermit.
* The estimated stage at 8:30 AM is 40.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 38 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...the river is forecast to have a maximum value of 46.7 feet this
  evening.
* At stages near 46 feet...Businesses shouuth of Route 40(Virginia street) on
  Wayne and Cabell Streets affected.
* A crest near 46.7 feet compares to a previous crest of 46.3 feet on February 17
  2003.

  the Tygart Valley River At Belington.
* AT  8:30 AM Thursday the stage was 17.2 feet and nearing crest.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 14 feet.
* Forecast...the river will start to recede this evening.
* At stages near 17.0 feet...Flooding of the streets of Belington due to storm
  sewers backing up. Many low lying areas are flooded.
* A crest near 17.0 feet compares to a previous crest of 15.2 feet on
  December 8 2013.

  the Tygart Valley River At Philippi.
* AT  8:00 AM Thursday the stage was 22.3 feet and receding.
* A crest of 22.65 occurred during the predawn.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Forecast...the River will continue to recede, at a faster rate tonight.
* At stages near 22.0 feet...North High and Woods Streets are flooded. Stevens
  and North Walnut Streets are flooded. Also, a store is flooded near Stevens
  and North Walnuts Streets.
* A crest near 22.4 feet compares to a previous crest of 21.4 feet on February 7
  2004.

The Flood Warning continues for
  the Buckhannon River Near Buckhannon.
* AT  8:45 AM Thursday the stage was 25.9 feet and in crest.
* Moderate Flooding is occurring and Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 23 feet.
* Forecast...the river is in crest and will start to recede slowly this aftrernoon,
  but at a faster rate overnight tonight.
  * At stages near 26 feet...Major flooding in buckhannon and surrounding areas.
  Businesses and a factory north of buckhannon near the Morton Avenue bridge
  near the gage starts to flood around 26 feet.
* A crest near 26.0 feet compares to a previous crest of 24.1 feet on December 7
  2013.

The Flood Warning continues for
  the Guyandotte River At Branchland.
* AT  8:30 AM Thursday the stage WAS 33.6 feet and rising slowly.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Minor Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 30 feet.
* Forecast...the River will continue rising to near 33.8 feet by this afternoon.
  The river will fall below flood stage tonight.
* At stages near 35.0 feet...Roads along the guyandotte near west hamlin begin to
  flood.
* A crest near 33.8 feet compares to a previous crest of 34.3 feet on April 16
  2007.

* AT  8:45 AM Thursday the stage WAS 23.8 feet. The level was receding.
* The crest occurred during the predawn this morning at 24.54 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Minor Flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 23 feet.
* Forecast...the river will continue to fall to below flood stage this
  afternoon.
