...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT THURSDAY LATE MORNING THROUGH EVENING
FOR MUCH OF CENTRAL NEW MEXICO AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO DUE TO STRONG
WINDS AND VERY LOW HUMIDITY...

.DISCUSSION...
Well above average temperatures expected today amongst generally
light winds and low humidity. Winds will begin to strengthen on
Wednesday as the ridge breaks down and in the presence of dry
conditions bring about elevated fire weather concerns. Critical to
extreme fire weather conditions are expected on Thursday across much
of central New Mexico and all of eastern New Mexico as strong
southwest winds combine with very low humidity. Widespread single
digit RH is expected, some of which will prevail for durations
greater than 5 hours in areas of timber fuels. West winds will remain
gusty on Friday but improved moisture will fire weather concerns.
The potential for critical fire weather conditions will return
across portions of eastern New Mexico on Sunday as elevated winds
continue and humidity plummets back into the low double digits.
