Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
318 PM PDT Mon May 29 2017

...Slight chance of elevated thunderstorms with isolated dry
lightning and gusty downdraft winds possible this afternoon and
evening over the mountains of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties...

.DISCUSSION...
A weak upper level trough approaching the West Coast today will
increase the onshore surface pressure gradients...with many beach
areas struggling to clear. A couple of weak disturbances within the
flow will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the Ventura
and Santa Barbara County Mountains this afternoon and evening. There
is the potential for elevated convection due to limited moisture. If
storms do develop, the main risk will be the potential for dry
lightning and strong downdraft winds. The models show less
instability over the L.A. Mountains so only expect to see partly
cloudy skies there this afternoon.

Low clouds are expected to redevelop and push inland over the coast
and valleys tonight into Tuesday morning. Expect continued onshore
flow and a degree or two of cooling for most areas.

The models agree fairly well on deepening the upper low over the
area on Wednesday as a disturbance moves through the flow aloft.
This will work to deepen the marine layer, with patchy drizzle likely
in many areas. Mid to upper level clouds will spread across the area
during the afternoon with a slight chance of showers over interior
areas Wednesday afternoon and evening. The main areas affected will
be from the northwest Antelope Valley, the Ventura Mountains and
northward over eastern San Luis Obispo County. Mainly light showers
are expected along with gusty north winds.
