SUBJECT:  Implementation of Impact-Based Marine Weather Statements
          for Convective Events Below Special Marine Warning
          Thresholds, effective January 2, 2017

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Charleston SC will
implement impact-based marine weather statements for convective
events that fall just short of Special Marine Warning criteria on
January 2, 2018. This change is part of an ongoing effort to
modify local National Weather Service products to contain more
specific, impact-based weather information.

Impact-based Marine Weather Statements will be only be issued for
for the following criteria:

+ Sustained or frequent convective wind gusts up to 30 knots.
+ dime size hail (0.50 inch diameter)
+ Excessive cloud-to-water lightning
