URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

...Snow to impact much of the region Sunday...

.A cold front will bring lowering snow levels and moderate to
heavy precipitation to the forecast area Sunday into Sunday
night. Travel will be impacted on high mountain passes and the
lower passes on Interstate 5 and Highway 199. Occasional heavier
snow showers Sunday afternoon and evening could quickly cover
roadways and may bring slushy accumulations to some valley floors.

The National Weather Service in Medford has cancelled the Winter
Storm Watch.

* Snow accumulations: 3 to 6 inches.

* Elevation: Generally above 1500 feet.

* Timing: The highest snowfall rates are expected Sunday
  afternoon.

* Locations include: Glendale, Azalea, Tiller, Interstate 5 from
  Sexton Pass to Canyonville, Highway 42 at Camas Mountain Pass,
  and Highway 227.

* Impacts: Any heavier snow showers, even during the afternoon
  Sunday, could quickly create slushy conditions on roadways.
  Snowfall will reduce visibilities to less than a half mile at
  times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
  will cause travel difficulties.

* Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.

* Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and
  limited visibilities.

Storm Watch to a Winter Weather Advisory.

* Snow accumulations: 2 to 4 inches. Up to 8 inches possible
  above 2500 feet.

* Timing: The highest snowfall rates are expected Sunday
  afternoon.

* Advisory locations include: Cave Junction, Selma, Obrien, Wolf
  Creek, Highway 199 from Hayes Hill to Obrien, and Interstate 5
  at Sexton Pass.

* Impacts: Any heavier snow showers, even during the afternoon
  Sunday, could quickly create slushy conditions on roadways.
  Snowfall will reduce visibilities to less than a half mile at

The National Weather Service in Medford has upgraded the Winter
Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning for Heavy Snow...which is
in effect from 10 AM Sunday to 4 AM PST Monday. A Winter Weather
Advisory for Snow is also in effect from 10 AM Sunday to 4 AM PST
Monday.

* Snow accumulations in the Warning area: 4 to 8 inches.

* Snow accumulations in the Advisory area: 1 to 3 inches

* Locations in the Warning include: Prospect, Dead Indian Memorial
  Road, and portions of Highways 62, 140, and 227 in the
  foothills of the Cascades and in the Umpqua Divide.

* Locations in the Advisory include: Butte Falls, Highways 62 and
  227 north of Shady Cove, and Highway 238 at Jacksonville Hill.

* Timing: The highest snowfall rates are expected Sunday
  afternoon.

* Impacts: Snowfall could create slippery, snow covered roads,
  and reduce visibilities to less than a half mile or less at
  times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* Stock emergency kit with tire chains, flashlight, batteries,
  blankets, food, water, and medications.

* Plan now to avoid traveling during the storm.

* Travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions.

* A Winter Storm Warning means that severe winter weather is
  likely and poses a threat to life and property. Take protective
  action now.

  are likely Sunday afternoon.

* Locations include: Steamboat, Toketee Falls, and Highway 138.

* Impacts: Snow will create slippery, snow covered roads, and
  reduce visibilities to less than a half mile or less at times.

* Stock emergency kit with tire chains, flashlight, batteries,
  blankets, food, water, and medications.

* Travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions.

* If you must travel, keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets,
  food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with you.

  Creek to Crescent.

* Impacts: Roads are expected to become snow covered in heavier
  snow showers. Travel may be difficult at times.

  near Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5.

* Winds: West 15 to 25 mph.

* Timing: Highest snowfall rates, around one inch per hour, are
  expected Sunday afternoon.

* Locations include: Highways 138, 230, and 62 near Diamond Lake
  and Crater Lake. Highway 140 near Lake of the Woods. Mount
  Ashland Ski Road.

* Impacts: Roads are expected to become snow covered in heavier
  snow showers. Blowing snow will reduce visibilities at times to
  less than one quarter mile.

  feet elevation.

* Elevation: Mostly above 1500 feet.

* Timing: The highest snowfall rates are expected Sunday
  afternoon.

* Locations include: Higher portions of Highway 96 from Seiad
  Valley to Somes Bar. Sawyers Bar Road west of Etna, and the
  higher terrain of Western Siskiyou County.

* Impacts: Snow will create slippery, snow covered roads, and
  reduce visibilities to less than a half mile or less, at times.
