OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
900 AM CDT Mon May 6 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure of 30.1 inches over northern lower Michigan will
slowly propagate northeast throughout the day into eastern
Ontario. East to northeast winds around 10-15 KT will exist across
Lake Michigan today associated with this high pressure.

Low pressure of 29.2 inches currently over eastern Wyoming will
propagate eastward today, deepening to 29.0 inches across the
Great Plains, approaching the Great Lakes region by Tuesday
morning. Winds will remain out of the east to southeast throughout
the day Tuesday, accelerating due to the tightening pressure
gradient associated with the low pressure. A line of showers and
thunderstorms will accompany the low Tuesday morning, approaching
the open waters by Tuesday afternoon. Additional showers and
thunderstorms are possible Tuesday evening, but are expected to be
more scattered in coverage. Winds will turn southwesterly Tuesday
night as the low pressure moves eastward before becoming
northeasterly Wednesday afternoon as another area of low pressure
of 29.5 inches propagates towards the Great Lakes from the Great
Plains. Additional showers and thunderstorms are possible on
Thursday, mainly across the southern half of the lake, as this
second low moves eastward, south of Lake Michigan. High pressure
then builds into the Great Plains region on Friday, with northerly
winds across the lake.
