FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
552 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

...ELEVATED WILDFIRE POTENTIAL ACROSS ALL OF UPPER MICHIGAN THIS
AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION:

Hudson Bay high pressure will maintain a very dry airmass across
Upper Michigan today in advance of a fairly strong low pressure
system approaching through the Central Plains. The resulting low
relative humidities falling to 20 percent or lower across much of
Upper Michigan combined with increasing easterly winds gusting to
from 20 to nearly 35 mph ahead of the low will set the stage for
elevated wildfire potential across Upper Michigan this afternoon
into this evening. The approaching low will bring relief from the
dry conditions by spreading rain showers west to east across the
forecast area late evening into the overnight hours which will
continue into Wednesday. Rainfall totals tonight through Wednesday
evening will range from 0.50 to 0.75 inches over the western zones
of the U.P. to as much as one to two inches across the central and
eastern zones, highest south central and far east.
