...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN FLOYD...SOUTHEASTERN
CARROLL AND CENTRAL PATRICK COUNTIES THROUGH 630 PM EDT...

At 542 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Floyd to near Cana. Movement was northeast
at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Occasional to frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Locally
         brief heavy rainfall.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Lightning is dangerous. Remain indoors or in your vehicle
         until the storm has passed. Locally heavy rainfall may
         cause localized flooding and ponding of water on roadways.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building

If on Smith Mountain Lake, seek safe shelter off the lake
immediately.

Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and
minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid
hydroplaning.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
