Northwest Louisiana...East Texas...and Extreme Southeast Oklahoma National Weather Service Shreveport LA 329 PM CDT Wed May 8 2024 .DISCUSSION... Hot and humid conditions will continue for one more day, but showers and thunderstorms will develop over portions of North Texas and Southeast Oklahoma late this afternoon, before spreading into Northeast Texas, Southwest Arkansas, and portions of North Louisiana this evening and overnight, along and ahead of a weak cold front that will move into these areas late. Some of these storms will become severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado or two possible. Hot and humid conditions will return Thursday as temperatures top out in the mid 80s to lower 90s, with min RH`s ranging from 50-60+%. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Thursday afternoon over East Texas, and quickly spread east across North Louisiana and Southern Arkansas by late afternoon into the evening. Some of these storms will again be severe, with damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes again possible. Locally heavy rainfall and localized flooding will be possible as well, before the storms diminish from west to east by or shortly after midnight. The weak cold front will shift south across the remainder of the area Thursday night, with slightly cooler and drier air spilling back south through the region Friday through the upcoming weekend. Unfortunately, this dry spell will be short-lived as additional showers and thunderstorms will increase across the region Sunday afternoon through Monday, before diminishing again by Tuesday.
