FLOOD STATEMENT

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MARQUETTE IS CONTINUING THE FLOOD
ADVISORY FOR THE STURGEON RIVER NEAR CHASSELL IN HOUGHTON COUNTY...

.COOLER TEMPERATURES ON TUESDAY COMBINED WITH LOWERING UPSTREAM FLOW
SHOULD ALLOW THE STURGEON RIVER NEAR CHASSELL TO CREST TONIGHT AND
THEN FALL TO BELOW BANKFUL STAGE ON THURSDAY MORNING. MODERATE
PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF RAIN CHANGING TO SNOW THURSDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY WILL AFFECT THE AREA AND MAY ALLOW RIVER
LEVELS TO RISE BACK TO BANKFUL THIS WEEKEND.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

SAFETY MESSAGE...RESIDENTS ALONG THESE RIVERS SHOULD REMAIN ALERT AND
EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN WALKING NEAR RIVERBANKS. REPORTS INDICATE THAT
SNOW BANKS HAVE PREVENTED WATER FROM FLOWING ONTO ROADS THAT ARE
TYPICALLY AFFECTED AT THESE RIVER LEVELS. REMAIN CAUTIOUS OF THESE
BANKS BREAKING AND ALLOWING WATER TO FLOW ONTO ROADWAYS.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS MINOR FLOODING IS POSSIBLE AND RIVERS ARE
FORECAST TO EXCEED BANKFULL. IF YOU ARE IN THE ADVISORY AREA REMAIN
ALERT TO POSSIBLE FLOODING...OR THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ADVISORY BEING
UPGRADED TO A WARNING. REPORT OBSERVED FLOODING TO LOCAL EMERGENCY
SERVICES OR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND REQUEST THEY PASS THIS INFORMATION ON
TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

* AT 4 PM WEDNESDAY THE STAGE WAS 10.3 FEET.
* BANKFULL STAGE IS 10.0 FEET.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 10.5 FEET.
* FORECAST...THE RIVER WILL IS EXPECTED TO CREST BELOW FLOOD STAGE
  THIS EVENING AND BEGIN FALLING OVERNIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING.
* AT 10.5 FEET...THE RIVER BEGINS TO OVERFLOW ONTO STURGEON RIVER
  ROAD...RAJALA ROAD...AND AHO ROAD.
