FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
927 AM PDT FRI AUG 22 2014

...WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER TO RETURN EARLY NEXT WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...GENERAL NORTHWESTERLY FLOW WILL CONTINUE
TODAY...WITH PLENTY OF MORNING LOW CLOUDS GIVING WAY TO SOME
AFTERNOON SUNSHINE. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN A COUPLE DEGREES BELOW
AUGUST NORMALS TODAY...AND RH SHOULD BE A BIT HIGHER THAN YESTERDAY.
ONSHORE FLOW WILL INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AS LOW PRESSURE STRENGTHENS
EAST OF THE CASCADES. WARMER WEATHER IS EXPECTED EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...NORTHWEST FLOW PERSISTS ACROSS THE REGION AS AN UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH SINKS INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FROM THE BRITISH
COLUMBIA COAST. LOW CLOUDS INCREASED MOST AREAS AS EXPECTED OVERNIGHT
WITH SOME POCKETS OF DRIZZLE REPORTED ALONG THE COAST AND IN THE
COAST RANGE. THE PROXIMITY OF THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MAY PROVIDE
ENOUGH INSTABILITY TO PRODUCE A FEW SHOWERS IN THE CASCADES THIS
AFTERNOON...WITH THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE OF A STRAY THUNDERSTORM NEAR
MOUNT ADAMS. ALL OF THIS WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES A TAD BELOW NORMAL
THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING. GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS WILL INTENSIFY THIS
AFTERNOON AS LOWER PRESSURE DEVELOPS EAST OF THE CASCADES AND HIGHER
PRESSURE STRENGTHENS OFFSHORE. WEST TO NORTHWEST WIND GUSTS OF 25 TO
35 MPH ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE RIDGETOPS AND THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A TREND TOWARD WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER IS
EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND AS FLOW TURNS MORE NORTHERLY...WITH ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES LIKELY EARLY NEXT WEEK AS A TRANSITORY BUT STRONG UPPER
LEVEL RIDGE MOVES ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. WEAGLE
