URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Pendleton OR
652 AM PST Fri Dec 15 2017

...STAGNANT AIR CONDITIONS CONTINUE THROUGH THIS MORNING...

.An upper level ridge will remain over the Pacific Northwest
through this morning and then rapidly break down this afternoon and
allow an upper level trough to usher in colder air aloft. This
colder air will erode the inversion and scour out the stagnant
air at lower elevations in the Lower Columbia Basin, adjacent
valleys and along the Foothills of the Blue Mountains of Oregon
and Washington. This morning the ridge will cause air movement to
be limited over large portions of the region. Winds will increase
this evening and help to mix out the stagnant air mass at lower
elevations across most of the region. Patchy freezing fog will be
possible and the air quality will be unhealthy at times this
morning.

...AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM PST THIS
MORNING...

* AIR QUALITY...Moderate to unhealthy at times.

* TIMING...Stagnant air to persist through this morning.

* IMPACTS...Persons with respiratory issues should follow the
advice of their physician on how to deal with poor air
quality. Also outdoor burning may be limited, so please
consult with your local burn agencies.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

An Air Stagnation Advisory indicates that due to limited movement
of an air mass across the advisory area...pollution has the
potential to increase to dangerous levels. Persons with
respiratory illness should follow their physicians advice for
dealing with high levels of air pollution.

During periods of stagnant air...state air quality agencies
highly recommend that no outdoor burning occur and that
residential wood burning devices be limited as much as possible.
According to state air quality agencies...prolonged periods of
stagnant air can hold pollutants close to the ground...where
people live and breathe. Check with your local burn agency for
any current restrictions in your area.
