A RECORD DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 91 DEGREES WAS SET AT AVOCA PA
YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 85 SET IN 1998 AND 1946.
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77 ALSO BROKE THE RECORD FOR THE DAY OF
75 SET IN 1998. THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 63 MISSED THE RECORD OF 65
SET IN 1998.

THIS ENDED A 4 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 90 DEGREES OR MORE. A HEAT WAVE
IS DEFINED AS 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 90 DEGREES OR MORE. THIS IS THE
LATEST A HEAT WAVE HAS OCCURRED IN THE SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE AREA.
THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS SEPTEMBER 14 TO 16 IN 1915.

RECORD DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE SET EACH DAY FROM THE 24TH TO
THE 27TH. RECORD DAILY AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE SET FROM THE 25TH
TO THE 27TH. ON THE 26TH THE LOW TEMPERATURE TIED THE RECORD FOR
WARMEST THAT DAY.

ON SEPTEMBER 25TH, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 92 DEGREES. THIS WAS THE
