Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...

The region will continue to be in a dry air mass today as we await
the arrival of a storm system. Although, this storm will only affect
eastern portions of the forecast area with generous amounts of rain
and snow. Relative humidity will drop to around 20 percent today
from the James valley westward into central South Dakota. Northeast
winds will be rather breezy as well. On Monday, relative humidity
will be lowest from the James valley into central South Dakota with
readings in the 20s and 30s mostly. Winds on Monday will be breezy
from the north and northwest.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category
this afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low
moisture content of grasses and other dry organic material
on the ground indicate that there is a high
potential for a fire occurrence. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds
are usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a
lowering moisture content of grasses and other dry organic
material on the ground indicate that there is some potential
for a fire occurrence. Do not leave outdoor fires unattended
under these conditions.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.

performed with reasonable safety precautions.

will reach the low category.
