            THE ALGOMA GUARDIAN...A SHIP 729 FEET
            LONG...WAS MOVING THROUGH THE DULUTH SHIP
            CANAL WHEN SEVERE WINDS STRUCK. THE SHIP`S
            ANEMOMETER MEASURED A GUST OF 103 MPH. THE
            CREW HAD DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING ITS COURSE
            THROUGH THE NARROW CANAL AND AVOID HITTING
            THE BARRIERS ON THE SIDES OF THE CANAL. THE
            AERIAL LIFT BRIDGE OPERATOR SAID THE
            BRIDGE`S ANEMOMETER MEASURED A GUST AS HIGH
            AS 80 MPH...BUT IT`S ANEMOMETER WAS MORE
            SHELTERED THAN THE SHIP`S ANEMOMETER.
