FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SE SD/SW MN/NW IA/NE NEBRASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD
440 AM CDT WED OCT 1 2014

...VERY WINDY WITH NORTHWEST WINDS AND COLD ON FRIDAY...

.DISCUSSION...
A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA TODAY. THIS
BOUNDARY WILL SHIFT THE WINDS FROM THE SOUTH TO THE WEST UP TO
THE I 29 CORRIDOR...WITH LOCATIONS EAST OF I 29 REMAINING OUT OF
THE SOUTH OR SOUTHEAST. WIND SPEEDS WILL NOT BE VERY STRONG TODAY.
A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE EAST OF I 29...AND ALSO ALONG THE
WIND SHIFT THIS MORNING IN SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA. A MORE VIGOROUS
DISTURBANCE ALOFT WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS NEBRASKA ON THURSDAY.
THIS SYSTEM WILL GIVE GOOD CHANCES FOR A WETTING RAIN ACROSS
SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA...SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA...NORTHWEST IOWA AND
EXTREME NORTHEAST NEBRASKA...ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON. BUT THE
BIG STORY WILL OCCUR THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY WHEN A POWERFUL COLD
FRONT WILL BLAST SOUTHWARD...GIVING DRAMATICALLY COOLER TEMPERATURES
AND VERY WINDY CONDITIONS ON FRIDAY. IN ADDITION...SCATTERED SHOWERS
ARE POSSIBLE GENERALLY NORTH OF THE MISSOURI RIVER VALLEY. THE AREA
COULD GET A LIGHT FREEZE FRIDAY NIGHT AND VERY EARLY SATURDAY...
BUT THEN TEMPERATURES WILL SLOWLY MODERATE THROUGH THE WEEKEND
AND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. SUNDAY COULD ALSO BE QUITE BREEZY
WIND WIND DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTHWEST AGAIN.
