Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
247 PM CDT Mon Mar 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions continue this
afternoon (especially central Neb / zone 209) and tomorrow
(especially southwest Neb / zones 210 and 219) as a very dry air
mass remains in place. Wind is the limiting factor for the overall
red flag potential as gusts generally remain under 15 mph. With
that said, multiple wind shifts are expected over the next couple
days, including SW to NW tomorrow morning and N to E Wednesday
morning. Humidity recovery will also likely be an issue Wednesday
night as maximum values hold below 70% for areas east of Hwy 83.
Gustier winds are expected Thursday (W or SW), but humidity values
should stay at least 5-10% above critical thresholds. A strong
storm system is then slated to cross the Great Plains over the weekend,
which should result in widespread precipitation and some totals
being fairly significant. Potential exists for accumulating snow,
especially north of Hwy 2.
