404 FNUS53 KMQT 020934 FWFMQT FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN National Weather Service Marquette MI 534 AM EDT Thu May 2 2024 ...Another round of showers today and tonight, then a strong drying day on Friday with warm conditions, gusty winds and low RH over the west half of Upper Michigan... .DISCUSSION: The next low pressure system lifting into the Upper Mississippi Valley today and into northern Ontario on Friday will spread showers across Upper MI this afternoon and tonight. Showers will end from west to east late tonight through Friday morning as an occluded front crosses the area. In general, rainfall amounts of 0.20 to 0.40 inches are expected across Upper MI. In the wake of the front, strong drying will occur on Friday across west and central Upper MI. Across that area, skies will become sunny in the morning, westerly winds will become gusty to 20 to 30 mph, temperatures will rise through the 60s to around 70, and RH will plummet to 20 to 30 percent. Over the east, winds will be lighter, temperatures will be lower, and developing winds off of the Great Lakes will keep RH from falling as dramatically. A weaker disturbance will bring the next chance of showers Saturday into Saturday night with the best chance across the west. These showers are likely to be scattered with not all areas receiving rain. Rainfall amounts are likely to be light, generally under 0.10 inches. A couple of drying days are expected Sunday and Monday before another wet period sets in late Monday night through at least Thursday.
