...APRIL WAS WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL IN LINCOLN...

DESPITE A DRY START TO THE MONTH...WITH WET WEATHER FROM AROUND THE
17TH ONWARD...LINCOLN HAD ITS 15TH WETTEST APRIL ON RECORD. THE
4.37 INCHES OF RAIN WAS 1.66 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. WITH A FEW
TEMPERATURE SWINGS BOTH EARLY AND LATE IN THE MONTH...AND A WARM
STRETCH THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...LINCOLN LANDED AT THE 18TH
WARMEST APRIL ON RECORD.

APRIL FOOLED US BY STARTING COOL AND WET...WITH A HIGH TEMPERATURE
OF ONLY 45 BEING THE COLDEST OF THE MONTH...AND WITH 0.03 INCHES OF
RAIN. THIS WAS NO HARBINGER FOR THE CONDITIONS TO FOLLOW. THE
WEATHER QUICKLY WARMED...AND THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH
OCCURRED ON THE 3RD...AT 85 DEGREES...AS TEMPERATURES STAYED ABOVE
NORMAL FROM THE 3RD THROUGH THE 6TH. A COLD FRONT BROUGHT NO
PRECIPITATION...THOUGH IT DID BRING WIND GUSTS AT 54 MPH OUT OF THE
NORTHWEST ON THE 7TH...AND TEMPERATURES STAYED ON THE COOL SIDE FOR
MOST OF THE 7TH THROUGH THE 12TH.

THE LAST FREEZE OF APRIL...AND POSSIBLY OF THE 2015-16
SEASON...OCCURRED ON THE 12TH AT 23 DEGREES...MAKING IT ALSO THE
LAST HARD FREEZE. IF THIS STANDS...THE LAST HARD FREEZE WOULD BE
ONE DAY LATER THAN THE PERIOD-OF-RECORD AVERAGE OF APRIL 11...BUT
THE LAST FREEZE WOULD BE 11 DAYS EARLIER THAN THE PERIOD-OF-RECORD
AVERAGE OF APRIL 23. THOUGH THE FREEZE WAS CLOSE TO TIMELY...AND
THERE WERE A FEW OF THEM IN EARLY APRIL...THE WARM EARLY SPRING DID
ALLOW FOR SOME EARLY GROWTH IN THE REGION THAT MADE LOCAL VEGETATION
UNUSUALLY SUSCEPTIBLE FOR THE TIME OF YEAR.

FROM THE 13TH THROUGH THE 26TH...TEMPERATURES REMAINED ABOVE
AVERAGE...WITH HIGHS FROM 61 TO 82 DEGREES AND LOWS FROM 43 TO 61
DEGREES...INCLUDING A RECORD WARM MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 59 ON THE
16TH. THE DRY PERIOD CONTINUED THROUGH THE 16TH. ON THE
17TH...0.25 INCHES OF RAIN FELL...AND THEN NO MORE THAN TWO DRY DAYS
IN A ROW OCCURRED FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH. THUNDER WAS REPORTED ON
JUST TWO DAYS NEAR THE END OF THE MONTH...AS THE RAINS FELL WITH MORE
STABLE LOW-PRESSURE SYSTEMS.

THE MONTH OF APRIL ENDED AS IT BEGAN -- COOL AND WET -- AS
TEMPERATURES FELL BACK BELOW NORMAL FROM THE 27TH TO THE 30TH.
