FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK
822 PM AKDT TUE MAY 3 2016

UPDATED ZONE 145

.DISCUSSION...A SERIES OF WEAK AND DIFFUSE UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCES WILL HEAD INLAND ACROSS SOUTHCENTRAL TONIGHT.
SIMILAR TO RECENT DAYS EXPECT ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS
IN A UNIFORMLY WEAK UNSTABLE AIR MASS. LOCALIZED GAP WINDS
WILL ALSO PERSIST INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AS A SURFACE RIDGE
SITS ALONG THE NORTH GULF COAST.

A WEAK SURFACE FRONT BUT MUCH STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL
CROSS THE GULF TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY AND REACH THE NORTH GULF
COAST WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL BRING STEADY RAIN AND
STRONGER WINDS TO KODIAK ISLAND AND THE GULF COAST. A WEAK LOW
WILL FORM OVER THE NORTHWEST GULF WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WHICH WILL
RESULT IN NORTHERLY FLOW DOWN COOK INLET...PREVENTING TURNAGAIN
WINDS FROM MOVING INTO ANCHORAGE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
THE UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL RAPIDLY WEAKEN WEDNESDAY
NIGHT...SO INLAND AREAS WILL CONTINUE WITH ISOLATED TO SCATTERED
CONVECTION.

A MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT STORM SYSTEM WILL CROSS THE GULF THURSDAY
AND REACH SOUTHCENTRAL BY LATE THURSDAY. ONE KEY ASPECT WILL BE A
SHIFT IN LOW LEVEL FLOW TOWARD THE NORTH...WHICH SHOULD ALLOW SOME
RAIN TO MAKE IT OVER THE MOUNTAINS INTO INTERIOR SOUTHCENTRAL BY
THURSDAY NIGHT.
