Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Washington and North Idaho
National Weather Service Spokane WA

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM TO 8 PM PDT FRIDAY FOR FIRE
   ZONES 677...

.DISCUSSION...

...DRY AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS ALONG WITH BREEZY WINDS FRIDAY...

Dry and seasonably warm weather will persist this week under a dry
northwest flow aloft. Gusty gap winds will be found in the Cascade
valleys. Moderate high haines of a 5 will spread over most of the
districts by Friday morning...with unstable conditions resulting
in possible increased fire activity for any wildfires. A dry cold
front will move through the districts Friday afternoon. Winds will
steadily increase ahead of the front and become gusty after the
frontal passage. The strongest winds will be from the Cascade
valleys into the western Columbia Basin, as relative humidities
drop into the teens. The Central Cascade valleys have the best
chance for gusty winds and low humidities, raising concerns for
increased wildfire spread. Winds will gradually decrease late
Friday night. Wildfire smoke will continue near the Canadian
border, but may increase after the winds subside. Expect lighter
winds with temperatures cooling slightly back to near seasonal
normals for the weekend. Warmer temperatures are forecast for
early next week. More breezy winds and a chance of mountain
thunderstorms are possible by middle of next week.

Forecasts for 20 foot wind speeds (valleys and ridge tops) are
