FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
218 PM PDT MON AUG 31 2015

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...COOL AND SHOWERY WEATHER TO PERSIST
THROUGH THIS WEEK AS BROAD UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE REMAINS
OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. A WEAK FRONT IS BRINGING LIGHT
RAIN MAINLY TO THE NORTH COAST AND COAST RANGE TODAY. A
BETTER ORGANIZED FRONT WILL SPREAD MORE WIDESPREAD LIGHT RAIN
TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. THEN EXPECT PLENTY OF SHOWERS
WEDNESDAY WITH POTENTIAL FOR A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO. EXPECT
A BRIEF WARMING AND DRYING TREND NEXT WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...THIS WEEK WILL FEATURE PERSISTENT COOL AND
SHOWERY CONDITIONS AS A BROAD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH SETTLES
OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. A WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY IS
BRINGING SOME LIGHT RAIN FOR NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE
FORECAST AREA TODAY...ESPECIALLY FOR THE COAST AND COAST
RANGE. LITTLE TO NOTHING IS FALLING SOUTH OF ROUGHLY
SALEM. A MORE PRONOUNCED FRONT WILL SPREAD WIDESPREAD
LIGHT RAIN IN TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. WETTING
RAINS ARE A POSSIBILITY OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE
S WASHINGTON AND N OREGON CASCADES AND COAST RANGE.
EXPECT QUITE A BIT OF SHOWER ACTIVITY ON WEDNESDAY AS
AN UPPER LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVES THROUGH THE REGION.
THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BE FAIRLY UNSTABLE AND THERE IS THE
POTENTIAL FOR SOME ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS AS WELL. LIGHT
SHOWER ACTIVITY SHOULD CONTINUE ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY
BEFORE A BRIEF WARMING AND DRYING TREND OCCURS DURING
NEXT WEEKEND. A SHORTWAVE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE IS MODELED
TO MOVE THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THERE IS THE
POTENTIAL FOR SOME OFFSHORE FLOW TO DEVELOP DURING THIS
TIME. ANOTHER UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IS EXPECTED TO
APPROACH EARLY NEXT WEEK...BRINGING A RETURN TO THE COOLER
AND SHOWERY WEATHER. PYLE
