FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
228 PM PDT MON JUL 28 2014

...INCREASING CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE OREGON CASCADES
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...AN UPPER RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL
MAINTAIN HOT AND MOSTLY DRY WEATHER THROUGH THE WEEK. A WEAK MARINE
PUSH TONIGHT WILL RESULT IN POOR OVERNIGHT HUMIDITY RECOVERIES
INLAND AND ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE UPPER LEVEL WINDS WILL
BECOME SOUTHERLY TONIGHT AND TUESDAY BRINGING MONSOONAL MOISTURE
OVER THE DISTRICT BY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE INCREASE OF MOISTURE
COMBINED WITH AN UPPER-LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVING OVER SW OREGON WILL
PROVIDE A CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE OREGON CASCADES TUESDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

.DISCUSSION...HIGH PRESSURE WILL DOMINATE THE WEATHER THIS WEEK AND
THE INLAND TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL ABOVE NORMAL. HIGH PRESSURE AND
DRY AIR ALOFT WILL RESULT IN A SHALLOW MARINE AIR...AND LIMIT MARINE
CLOUDS TO THE IMMEDIATE COAST TONIGHT AND TUESDAY MORNING. THE LOW-
LEVEL WINDS WILL PRIMARILY BE NORTHERLY...BUT ON THE LIGHT SIDE
AND HEAVILY TERRAIN AND DIURNALLY DRIVEN.

MONSOONAL MOISTURE AND AN UPPER-LEVEL DISTURBANCE OVER SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA/ARIZONA WILL MOVE NORTHWARD TONIGHT AND TUESDAY. THESE
FEATURES WILL MOVE OVER SW OREGON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND
POSSIBLY TRIGGER THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE OREGON CASCADES. THE
GREATEST AREA OF THREAT FOR LIGHTNING WILL BE THE IN THE WILLAMETTE
NATIONAL FOREST TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE NE WEDNESDAY BUT
STILL GENERATE ENOUGH MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY TO POSSIBLY GENERATE
THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE OREGON CASCADE CREST AGAIN WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING FOR THE WILLAMETTE AND MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL
FORESTS. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL INITIALLY BE DRY...BUT BECOME MORE
MOIST TUESDAY NIGHT WITH WETTING RAIN POSSIBLE ON WEDNESDAY.

ANOTHER WAVE OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE WILL BRUSH THE DISTRICT LATE IN
THE WEEK AND CONTINUE THE CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE
CASCADES.

$$

***THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG GUSTY WINDS***
***WINDS ARE 20 FOOT 10 MINUTE AVERAGES***
***CWR-CHANCE OF WETTING RAIN 0.25 OR GREATER***
