FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
858 AM PDT SUN MAY 29 2016

...MUCH WARMER AND DRIER NEXT WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...UPPER LOW TODAY WILL GIVE WAY TO A RIDGE
BY MONDAY AFTERNOON. THERMAL TROUGH OVER CALIFORNIA WILL PUSH
NORTH BY MONDAY NIGHT BRINGING STRONG NIGHT TIME INVERSIONS WITH
WARM AND DRY DAYS. IT WILL ALSO BRING MODERATE TO STRONG LOW
LEVEL INSTABILITY TUESDAY. THERMAL TROUGH MAY MOVE EAST BY
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BRINGING A MARINE PUSH.

.DISCUSSION...UPPER TROUGH AXIS CROSSING THE REGION TODAY AND MAY
BRING SOME SPOTTY RAIN MAINLY NORTH OF A TILLAMOOK-MT HOOD LINE
TODAY. COULD GET SOME SPRINKLES ELSEWHERE. WILL THEN SEE A
MODERATELY STRONG RIDGE SHIFT EAST OVER THE REGION FOR A FEW DAYS.
MAIN IMPACT WILL BE A THERMAL TROUGH BUILDING NORTH FROM
CALIFORNIA WHICH SHOULD BRING MUCH WARMER AND DRIER CONDITIONS
EARLY IN THE WEEK. THERMAL TROUGH SITS OVER THE COAST RANGE MONDAY
NIGHT THEN BECOMES CENTERED OVER THE I-5 CORRIDOR TUESDAY. THIS
WILL BRING STRONG INVERSIONS CENTERED AROUND ROUGHLY 2500 FT
MONDAY NIGHT AND PROBABLY TUESDAY NIGHT AS WELL. IT WILL LIKELY
ALSO BRING STRONG LOW LEVEL INSTABILITY FOR THE CASCADES AND
FOOTHILLS TUESDAY AND POSSIBLY WEDNESDAY ASSUMING THE THERMAL
TROUGH DOESN`T MOVE EAST AS FAST AS MODELS WANT TO.

THE UPPER RIDGE WILL GRADUALLY GET FLATTENED LATER IN THE WEEK AS
IT BECOMES CENTERED OVER THE FOUR CORNERS REGION. IT THEN APPEARS
TO STRENGTHEN FOR NEXT WEEKEND POSSIBLY BRINGING A QUASI-MONSOONAL
SOUTHERLY FLOW AND A POTENTIAL THREAT OF HIGH BASE THUNDERSTORMS AROUND
NEXT SUNDAY. FAR FROM CERTAIN BUT VERY MUCH WORTH KEEPING AN EYE
ON. /JBONK

NOTE: DAILY INTERNET BRIEFINGS WILL BEGIN TUESDAY MAY 30 AT 0940
PDT. SAME PHONE NUMBER AND PASSCODE AS BEFORE.
