FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
245 PM PDT THU JUL 2 2015

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT WILL KEEP VERY
WARM AND MOSTLY DRY WEATHER IN PLACE THROUGH THE WEEKEND. BREEZY
NORTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING
EACH OF THE NEXT FEW DAYS...WITH THE STRONGEST WINDS EXPECTED
FRIDAY FOR THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE. LOW
PRESSURE APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST MAY BRING ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS TO THE CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST WILL REMAIN UNDER THE
INFLUENCE OF HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THIS
WILL CONTINUE THE PERIOD OF VERY WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS.
SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL PERSIST OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC
WITH A HEAT LOW OVER SOUTHERN OREGON AND THE COLUMBIA RIVER
BASIN EAST OF THE CASCADES. THIS PATTERN WILL RESULT IN
BREEZY NORTHWEST WINDS DEVELOPING DURING THE AFTERNOON AND
EVENING FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE
EXPECTED FRIDAY AS A WEAK UPPER LEVEL TROUGH APPROACHES TO THE
NORTH. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT BORDERLINE RED FLAG WARNING
CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP FOR A FEW HOURS LATE FRIDAY IN THE
WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND CENTRAL COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE. ALSO
OF CONCERN IS A SUBSIDENCE INVERSION AT BETWEEN 3 KFT AND 5
KFT...WHICH WILL LIMIT OVERNIGHT HUMIDITY RECOVERIES FOR THE
CASCADES AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE COAST RANGE OVER THE
NEXT COUPLE OF NIGHTS. THE THERMAL TROUGH IS EXPECTED
TO PUSH WEST OF THE CASCADES ON SUNDAY...BRINGING ANOTHER
VERY HOT DAY AND POSSIBLE HAINES 6 CONDITIONS. ANOTHER
UPPER LEVEL TROUGH APPROACHING FROM THE NORTH WILL BRING
A RETURN TO ONSHORE FLOW EARLY NEXT WEEK...BUT STILL
EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL. UPPER
LEVEL LOW PRESSURE APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST WILL
BRING INCREASING MOISTURE ALONG WITH THE POSSIBILITY FOR
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONE 608 AT SOME
POINT EARLY NEXT WEEK. PYLE
