Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
419 AM MST Mon Feb 27 2017

...A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 6 PM TODAY FOR
GUSTY WINDS...LOW HUMIDITIES AND DRY FUELS FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES
226 THROUGH 237 WHICH INCLUDES ALL OF THE INTERSTATE 25 CORRIDOR
AND THE SOUTHEAST COLORADO PLAINS...

.Discussion...

Winds will increase across the area today, with critical fire
weather conditions over all of the southeastern Colorado plains
this afternoon and early this evening.

Meanwhile, heavy, blowing snow is expected over the Continental
Divide from this afternoon into Tuesday evening. Some moisture
from this system will spill over to the eastern mountains at
times, with light snow tonight and Tuesday. Over the plains, the
cold front associated with this system will push through the region
on Tuesday, with some light rain and snow showers possible. This
should reduce the fire danger into midweek. Dry and warmer weather
then returns from the middle of the week into the weekend, with the
next big threat for high fire danger arriving Sunday, ahead of a
new storm system.

Afternoon ventilation rates will generally be very good to
excellent across all the region today as transport winds become
very strong. On Tuesday, rates will still be good or
better over much of the district but a large part of the plains
north of the Arkansas River will see only poor ventilation.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
