Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...Skies will be mostly cloudy today with numerous
showers and isolated thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in
the 50s to around 60 degrees. Winds will be north to northwest,
increasing to 20 to 35 mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph in most
areas. Some gusts to over 60 mph are possible over portions of the
west central South Dakota plains. Relative humidities will stay
above 50 percent across most of the area, except dropping to 40 to
50 percent across extreme southwest South Dakota.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely monitored.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the low category this
afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low.
Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be performed
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Wednesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low category to high category.
