...Upper Yukon River Breakup Status...

River Watch flew the Yukon River on Tuesday from Eagle to the
Fortymile River. An observer 23 miles upstream of Eagle said that
the Yukon River there broke up Monday afternoon. Ice began
flowing but within a few hours had stopped flowing and an ice jam
formed. Yukon rose to near mid-summer high levels and was
continuing to rise slowly. Due to current river levels and ice
conditions, the threat for flooding has diminished in the area
around Eagle. However, ice jams can still pose a localized threat
in the areas immediately around where they form.

As of Thursday morning, the ice is still in place at Eagle with
water levels still slowly rising. The Yukon River at the Fortymile
broke up last evening. There is an ice jam in place 5 miles
downstream from Dawson as of this morning. Ice will continue to
shift at Eagle with fluctuating water levels.
